Soloindue – singing gambist

GIOVANNA BAVIERA (Italy), Renaissance viola da gamba and voice

The exceptionally talented young Italian gambist and soprano singer Giovanna Baviera is one of few musicians to reconstruct the historical practice of cantar alla viola – self-accompaniment with viola da gamba. In this programme, she presents this tradition in a very personal way; in addition to the historical repertoire with music for voice and lyra-vielle, the polyphonic chansons of Sandrina and Arcadelta and the Italian monodies Caccini, she’ll also perform compositions written specifically for her by composers Simon MacHale and Eve Reiter.

The event was created in close cooperation with the local community and the Ozeljan – Šmihel Tourist Association.

The Blind Brothers of Bruges

SOLLAZZO ENSEMBLE (France, Portugal, UK)
Marie Théoleyre, voice
Philip Meneses, vielle
Anna Danilevskaia, vielle and artistic dir.

The young band Sollazzo Ensemble is directed by Anne Danilevskaia, a French musician of Russian descent who has established herself as one of the leading ensembles for medieval and early Renaissance music ever since the very beginning of 2014. The winners of many awards thus perform in many of the world’s most significant venues and already have a large discography of albums receiving numerous rewards. In this programme, two vielles or fidulas, the predecessors of viola da gamba, accompanied by voice, perform fabulous Burgundy chansons from the 15th century. In the first part, the programme is dedicated to two blind vielle players, Jehan de Cordoval and Jehan Ferrandes, who came to the Burgundy court in 1433 and settled in Bruges, where they worked and fascinated the greatest musicians of their time, Guillaume de Dufay and Gilles Bincchois. In the second part, we’ll enter into the next generation and into the music world of Ferrandes’s sons Johannes and Carolus, who inherited both exceptional musical talents and blindness from their father, and the echo of their fame continued up to the early 16th century.

Concert in collaboration with the Dramsam Society and the Musica Cortese Festival.

Valentine’s concert

SON DU XANGÔ feat. PATRICIO BONFIGLIO
Patricio Bonfiglio, bandoneon
Margherita Crisetig, saxophones
Francesca Hrast, vibraphone
Riccardo Casanova, eectric bass guitar
Alessandro Scolz, piano and keyboards
Camilla Collet, drums

Valentino’s concert will focus on modern tango and the music of Astor Piazzola, which he developed in the sixties of the 20th century. He introduced instruments that were not traditionally used in Argentine tango. The musicians will present Astor Piazzolla – Reminiscence 1974 project, which was born in collaboration with the Argentinian bandoneonist Patricio “Trip” Bonfiglio. It reinterprets compositions from two Piazzolla albums recorded in Italy in 1974. The first is the revolutionary record Libertango, which symbolizes the transition from traditional tango to tango nuevo. The second is the album Summit – Reunion Cumbre, which is the result of a collaboration between the Argentine bandoneonist and the American saxophonist Gerry Mulligan and on which tradition, innovation, tango and jazz intertwine.

Goran Delač, bass guitar
Paul Kempf, keyboards

Zoran Predin’s songwriting career lasted 37 years; he wrote more than 300 songs during this time. In the new concert program, he chose compositions from his most successful musical projects: chansons from the albums Zoran poje Arsena and Tragovi u sjeti, hits from Ljubimec iz omare and Strup za punce, and the nationalized ballads of Lačni Franz. In a mischievous and playful chansonnier atmosphere, Zoran will pay tribute to his colleagues Arsen Dedić, Goran Bregović, Tomo Zdravković and Oliver Dragojević while singing his hits with tenderness and nostalgia, eroticism and black humour. We are waiting for a wreath of love, banter and some forbidden songs, which will undoubtedly attract the audience to sing along.
