About Festival In The Sounds of Places
The Nova Gorica Arts Centre has been involved in different cross-border projects for many years. We believe that the arts know no borders, and music needs no translation. One of these projects is In The Sounds of Places – Med zvoki krajev – Nei suoni dei luoghi, co-produced with Progetto Musica from Udine since 1999. This summer music festival enriches the cultural heritage of numerous interesting towns of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Goriška region.
Since 2020, after long and exceptional work of the former artistic director Enrico Bronzi, the baton has been passed to Stefan Milenković, world famous violinist, and Valentina Danleon, violinist from Friuli. The cross-border festival, which was initially held in Slovenia and Italy, has become international with festival venues also in Croatia and Austria. Besides discovering and enhancing the cultural heritage of the aforementioned territories with the universal language of music, it also represents an interaction between the work of already established musicians and the emerging talents from the Italian, Slovenian and Balkan academic music world. The Nova Gorica Arts Centre, long-term festival’s partner, enters this story by hosting Italian musicians in Slovenia, and Slovenian musicians and ensembles across the border in Italy. Free guided tours of locations as well as food and wine tastings are often organised alongside concerts.
