Photographer Andrej Perko, who lives and works in Vipavski Križ, marks a significant personal anniversary with a solo exhibition at Nova Gorica City Gallery, presenting a new cycle of black-and-white photographs under the title Premene. The word premene–as defined in the Dictionary of the Slovene Language–encompasses notions such as change, exchange, and substitution, which capture the artist’s intention. Perko’s work gives visual form to the shifting elements of the earth Gaia (Γάίά) and the Water Idor (Ýδωρ), exploring their presence within the landscape and visible traces left by human intervention. Perko’s works are both engaged and contemplative. Imbued with a sense of melancholy, rhythm, silence and contemplation. They invite the viewer to look more intently, and to have a more profound visual experience.
