Igor Lumpert (SI)

Igor Lumpert, a progressive tenor saxophonist and composer currently living and working in New York, was born on 27 October 1975 in Novo mesto, Slovenia. At the age of nineteen, he began his studies at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz, Austria. After graduating with honours in Austria, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the prestigious New School and moved to New York in the autumn of 2000. There he studied with the best of the best world’s musicians: George Garzone, Reggie Workman, Buster Williams, Chico Hamilton and Billy Harper. Lumpert’s music is a unique blend of jazz, funk, and the rhythms of Eastern Europe and modern neo bop. He has worked with world-class musicians such as Reggie Workman, John Abercrombie, Ben Monder, Matt Brewer, Damion Reid,

Jonathan Blake, Sonny Simmons, Christopher Tordini and Nasheet Waits. In addition to teaching at the SAXGO23 Saxophone Summer School, he will also perform at this year’s festival. He will present his project “Innertextures”, at which he will perform with Big Band NOVA. The ensemble will explore the boundaries and overlaps between the Lumpert’s pre-written compositions and improvisation.
