Violinists Dario Destefano and Francesco Comisso formed Trio Gustav as a continuation of a longstanding artistic collaboration that previously took shape in a piano trio, where they performed alongside internationally acclaimed pianist Olaf John Laneri. In this new ensemble, the three musicians have discovered a shared artistic language, rooted in a devotion to sound and a deep respect for musical form. Fusing hallmark Italian instrumental virtuosity with extensive international concert experience, their partnership is marked by authenticity and a powerful synergy, with the aim of delivering performances brimming with energy and interpretative elegance.

For this evening’s concert, they have chosen works by the master of counterpoint, Johannes Brahms—frequently regarded as both a traditionalist and an innovator. His music is deeply grounded in the structures and compositional techniques of the Baroque and Classical masters. Though some of his contemporaries considered his style overly “academic”, Brahms’s works became a touchstone and source of inspiration for an entire generation of composers. Over a career spanning nearly four decades, he composed five trios for various instrumental combinations—three of which will be performed at the seventh concert of our subscription series. For this occasion, Trio Gustav will be joined by clarinettist Lorenzo Guzzoni and horn player Boštjan Lipovšek, both highly respected musicians who have performed with leading orchestras, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and La Scala in Milan.
