THERESIA ORCHESTRA
Enrico Onofri, conductor
The Theresia Orchestra, a renowned international youth orchestra named after Empress Maria Theresia of Austria, was founded in 2012 on the initiative of a group of patrons. It brings together established musicians under the age of 28 from more than forty different countries, coming from the most important European music academies. The orchestra focuses exclusively on the repertoire of classical music and promotes its performance on early instruments by developing educational residencies and concert tours throughout Europe. Recently, the ensemble, which is also a member of the European Early Music Network (REMA), has started a long-term collaboration with the German label CPO and has released several CDs of works by Mattheson, Kraus, Eichner, Cimarosa, Traetta, Witt and many others. In Gorizia, the young musicians will perform under the baton of Enrico Onofrio, who, as conductor and solo violinist, explores repertoire from the 17th to the 20th century. His knowledge of historical practices, which are a great source of inspiration for new ideas and interpretative possibilities, has created a personal language which he will intertwine with the youthful enthusiasm of the members of the Orchestra Theresia at the opening concert of the new season. Together, they will recreate works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart that we have not had the opportunity to hear for a long time on our stage.
