Only the boldest top virtuosos and the most insightful musicians can deal with the demanding programme with a strong message announced for the April Season Ticket concert. The Israeli violinist Nurit Stark, British celloist Natalie Clein and the French-Swiss pianist Cédric Pescia are undoubtedly such musicians. Each one of them has had an exceptional musical career in their own right, performing at the most important concert stages around the world. Nowadays the three of them play concerts with renown orchestras and under the batons of famous conductors, and they also perform as chamber musicians.

For the concert in Nova Gorica, they have selected a programme of the formerly ridiculed and misunderstood composer Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich (1906–1975), who is nowadays considered a cult composer. His fifteen symphonies make him one of the greatest symphony composers of the 20th century. He also composed a series of orchestra concerts, ballets and operas. He created numerous solos, piano and chamber music, including fifteen string quartets. Together with Prokofiev he is viewed as one of the founders of the Russian national style. Due to his exceptional genius Shostakovich had, better than anybody else, managed to transform the atmosphere of the Soviet Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, the later war and the problems of restructuring society and the life of devastation into music: happiness, longing, melancholy, drama, passion, slowness, silence, war, almost terror, death… It is impossible to resist his power, his spirituality is luring, his originality forceful.
