Mark Turner is one of the most admired American saxophonists of his generation. He has earned a far-reaching reputation as one of the most original and influential musical forces in jazz and is known for his distinctive personal tone, exceptional improvisational skills and an innovative and challenging compositional approach. His exploratory intellect and intimate expressiveness on tenor saxophone regularly draw comparisons with one of his great role models, Warne Marsh. He was a member of the Fly, a celebrity trio with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jeff Ballard. He has also recorded 15 CDs of his own signature music pieces and has appeared as a guest on over 100 albums. At SAXGO23, he will be performing with his quartet, with whom he has already recorded three albums for the prestigious ECM publishing house. This time he will be accompanied by Jason Palmer on trumpet, Joe Martin on double bass and Jonathan Pinson on drums.

“Mark Turner’s sound – delicate, almost ethereal, especially in the upper register – is something we rarely hear nowadays” (source: The Guardian).
