IPAVSKA CHAMBER CHOIR

Since 1998, the Ipavska Chamber Choir has brought together singers from across the Vipava Valley. Under the inspired leadership of the acclaimed conductor Matjaž Šček, who guided the ensemble until 2014, the choir developed a distinct and enduring artistic identity. Following his departure, the choir collaborated with conductors Jerica Bukovec, Lovro Frelih, and Marko Sancin. In 2015, Italian composer and conductor Michele Josia assumed the role of principal conductor, succeeded in 2018 by Damjana Vončina, who continues to lead the choir with dedication to this day. Over the years, the singers and their conductors have carefully curated a repertoire spanning a wide range of musical styles and historical periods. Their programmes are particularly enriched by contemporary works from Slovenian composers of the Primorska region, as well as by rarely performed choral pieces. With this repertoire, they have achieved notable success at numerous choral competitions, both at home and abroad, and have released three albums that showcase different phases of their musical journey.

This year’s programme, The Song That Writes Us, is a celebration of Slovenian choral literature, interwoven with evocative arrangements of traditional Slovenian folk songs.
