Marko Hatlak has long been dedicated to bringing the masterpieces of Johann Sebastian Bach—whose works have inspired composers, musicians, and audiences for centuries—into the soundscape of the accordion. The culmination of his years-long creative journey and collaborations is the project Bach’s Chorales and Instrumentals, in which he takes the lead, joined by vocal soloists Nika Gorič, Barbara Jernejčič Fürst, Andrej Rustja, and Matjaž Robavs. This uniquely dramaturgical evening is devoted to arrangements of Bach’s vocal works and enriched by four outstanding instrumentalists. In a rare sound combination of flute, piano, violin, and double bass, the performers include Nicole Pressler, who has captivated audiences worldwide with prestigious orchestras and conductors; Aleksandra Pavlovič, an experienced pianist and respected chamber musician and educator; Jelena Pejić, an award-winning violinist of the younger generation who collaborates with many renowned ensembles across the wider region; and Stevan Jovanović, deputy section leader of the double bass section of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, who was named Serbia’s Best Young Artist in 2023. To complete the experience of Bach’s delicate polyphony, the Mixed Choir of the Music Society of Ljubljana will also join the performers on stage in the Grand Hall of Nova Gorica.
