The last concert of the season will be dedicated to the film music. In its beginnings, it was created by the greatest masters of classical music, only to develop later into a distinct musical genre whose works have remained fully equal and on a par with their concert cousins, so it is no wonder that orchestras or chamber ensembles continue to include them regularly in their programmes today. Masterpieces by Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, Armando Trovaioli or Astor Piazzolla, which have marked both musical and cinematic history, are adored by audiences all over the world because this music creates a magical dualism with the stage action, a dynamic dialogue of chiaroscuro, contrasts, affinities and harmonies. This is one of the reasons why the saxophonist Marco Albonetti and the Italian Philharmonic Orchestra, this time in a chamber ensemble, approach these scores with deep respect, love and even deliberate preservation of the patina. Of course, film music is meant to accompany the action on screen. But the music of the greatest composers is so powerful and distinctive that these melodies can live on their own, transporting us to another time and place, evoking memories of past experiences, or introducing us to new worlds that we can conjure up in our imagination.
