Bojan Gorišek, piano

Milko Lazar, piano

Since 2004, the Gorišek Lazar Piano Duo has brought together two outstanding Slovenian musicians, both Prešeren Prize winners: Bojan Gorišek, a leading Slovenian pianist in the field of contemporary piano literature, and Milko Lazar, one of Slovenia’s most versatile musicians (composer, pianist, harpsichordist, saxophonist and jazz musician). To date, the duo has performed together or separately in the USA, Europe and at home. Their repertoire includes works for two pianos by Philip Glass, Maurice Ravel, Erik Satie and Milko Lazar.

For their 20th anniversary concert, they have prepared an exclusive arrangement of Philip Glass’s Symphony No. 4, “Heroes”, composed for symphony orchestra in 1996, based on David Bowie and Brian Eno’s famous Heroes album (1977) from their Berlin period. It was arranged for two pianos by Milko Lazar. Glass’s six-movement symphonic work is subtitled Symphonic Ballet and was originally created for the ballet Heroes by the American choreographer Twyla Tharp. It was not until many years later that the work was performed in concert.

Milko Lazar created Prêt-à-porter Variations for two pianos in 2007 for the ballet Prêt-à-porter, choreographed by Edward Clug, which was also their first collaborative project. The ballet was premiered in 2008 at the SNG Maribor, where the music for two pianos was performed live. This work also received its first concert performance a few years later.
