Cellist Erik Friedlander arrives in Nova Gorica with his new album Dirty Boxing, with which he ‘ventures into the ring of music’. Here he transforms ‘dirty boxing’ into an enchanting experience that explores unexpected parallels between the disciplined art of music and the strategic fight of mixed martial arts.

His ensemble offers powerful musical blends of intensity and grace with a hint of martial spirit, creating a sound that is sure to amaze and even derail you a little. The Throw also hosts pianist Uri Caine, known for his masterful reworking of compositions of classical heritage, bassist Mark Helias, who performs with many of the musicians associated with the AACM collective, and drummer Ches Smith, who, in addition to his solo percussion albums, also writes for small and large jazz ensembles.
