CIČIĆI ZVUKOKRET
Jure Boršič, alto saxophone
Luka Zabric, alto saxophone

Cičići zvukokret is a newly formed ensemble of two saxophones and a trumpet, which, using preparations on the instruments and extended playing techniques, forge their way through the pathlessness of sound and acoustic phenomena of air, metal pipes and space. The conceptual design of the proposed project stems from already individually consolidated improvisational practices of research and work with abstract and ambiguous soundscapes, and their placement and expansion into the broader context of group playing, with sound as an independent entity representing the central improvisational driving force. In this way, the trio wants to move away from the conventional or idiomatic approach and aesthetics of wind instrument ensembles and delve into the sonic layering and deconstruction of musical parameters such as melody, rhythm, harmony and timbre.
Jure Boršič, born in 1994 in Ptuj, is a Slovenian saxophonist and clarinetist of the younger generation. For several years he worked as part of the Kombo school of Zlatko Kaučič and cultivates an interest in various musical styles and genres, ranging from improvised music, free jazz and electroacoustic music to noise and experimental metal, and also collaborates with poetry and dancers. He was a member of numerous Slovenian alternative music groups, and as an improviser he has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Elisabeth Harnik, Jasper Stadhouders, Timothee Quost, Tomaž Grom, Antti Virtaranta, Marina Đukljev, Jaka Berger, Diego Caicedo, Cene Resnik and Samo Kutin. He also participates in the organizational teams of the Fri-Fru-Fra concert series in his native Nova Gorica and Taktišče in Ljubljana.
Luka Zabric, born in 1997 in Ljubljana, is a saxophonist, living in Copenhagen, Denmark, since 2020, where he also completed his postgraduate studies in music performance at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory (RMC). He seeks inspiration in the broad sound spectrum and acoustic phenomena of the saxophone, which he approaches through the research and use of so-called extended techniques and instrumental preparations. On this basis, he builds his improvisational practice and outlines the framework of composition within projects and occasional collaborations that he (co)leads and for which he is artistically responsible.
Nikola Vuković is a trumpeter, improviser and composer from Belgrade, Serbia, currently living and working in Vienna, Austria. After completing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in jazz in Graz, he continued his specialization in contemporary music by studying at Klangforum Wien. He is now active on the jazz, improvised and contemporary music scene in Austria and the wider region. In his playing, he often focuses on exploring sound and trumpet from increasingly foreign spectral corners, including his own “invention” of the “prepared pocket trumpet”.
