Illustration for children and young people is a visual language that plays a role in shaping human consciousness. It holds a powerful influence over the psychological development of readers, fulfilling an important educational role – one that informs rather than moralises. For many children, books represent their first encounter with artistic expression. In a world saturated with imagery of questionable artistic quality, often shared through digital media, illustrated books represent a precious opportunity for children to engage with high quality art.

Slovenia is home to outstanding illustrators. In recent years, female illustrators from the Goriška region have emerged as particularly prominent voices within this field. This exhibition at the Nova Gorica City Gallery celebrates the work of three such artists. Their illustrations are a treasure that children and adults alike carry with them throughout their lives.
