The Nova Gorica Cultural Centre organises a series of film screenings for schools thus trying to entice children to enjoy this form of art by selecting quality films in cooperation with the teachers. The endeavour is even more important, considering the enormous quantity of visual images and messages we are exposed to every day. Children therefore need – in the same way as we do – to develop a critical way of seeing and visual thinking. The art of cinema, combining a series of art disciplines and tackling a variety of social issues, motivates the young to reflect and take up positions about topical questions. Cinema education thus inevitably touches upon the wider issues of ethics and responsibility and therefore teachers tend to include films pertinent to their teaching programme.
